פרשת בא

“Come with Me”

     פַּרְשַׁת בֹּא is named after Hashem’s instructions to משֶׁה רַבֵּינוּ.

Come to Pharaoh“-“בֹּא אֶל־פַּרְעֹה

(We remember that the Shoresh בּ.ו.א means “come.”)

If you review the story from beginning to end, you will notice that every single time that Hashem wanted משֶׁה to meet פַּרְעֹה in his palace, He told him “בֹּא“-“Come.”

Question: But, why did Hashem tell משֶׁה to “come” to פַּרְעֹה? Shouldn’t Hashem have told Moshe to “go” to פַּרְעֹה? He could have said,

לֵךְ אֶל־פַּרְעֹה“-“Go to Pharaoh.”

(We remember that the Shoresh ה.ל.כ means “go.” Whenever Hashem told משֶׁה to meet פַּרְעֹה by the Nile River, He used this word, “לֵךְ.”)

Answer: It’s a very scary thing to walk into the king’s palace uninvited, especially if the king doesn’t like you, doesn’t want to talk to you, and especially if you plan to tell the king something that he does not want to hear.

But, when Hashem said the word “בֹּא“-“come,” He was really telling משֶׁה “Come with Me. We will go together. You will not go alone.”

Life can be scary sometimes. But, if we’re on a mission to do what Hashem wants us to do, we’re not alone. Hashem comes with us.

Have a wonderful שבת!
